Mae pob un o'r digwyddiadau yn y tabl yn gallu achosi trallod amlwg ac mae’n bosib y bydd rhai’n datblygu cyflwr iechyd meddwl yn sgil hynny. Mae digwyddiad trawmatig yn gwneud pobl yn fwy agored i’r rhan fwyaf o gyflyrau iechyd meddwl, ac mae hyn yn ofyniad er mwyn cael diagnosis o Anhwylder Straen Wedi Trawma (PTSD).
Mae rhywfaint o ddadlau ynghylch pa ddigwyddiadau trawmatig sy’n gallu arwain at Anhwylder Straen Wedi Trawma, ond mae ysgaru a gwahanu’n enghreifftiau o ddigwyddiadau sydd ddim yn gallu arwain at hwn, er y gallan nhw fod yn drawmatig iawn i'r rheiny sy’n eu hwynebu.
Rhestrodd tua hanner trigolion Bwrdeistref Sirol Caerffili, ddywedodd eu bod wedi wynebu trawma, mai’r digwyddiad gwaethaf iddynt gael profiad ohono oedd un sy’n gymwys i gael diagnosis o Anhwylder Straen Wedi Trawma. Marwolaeth rhiant (18.6%) oedd y digwyddiad mwyaf cyffredin sydd ddim yn gymwys.
